On the development of the new harmonised damage stability regulations for dry cargo and passenger ships

چکیده
This paper outlines the methodological background and presents a summary of the main results of a series of undertaken international, IMO-led studies, on the harmonisation of the new probabilistic, risk-based regulations with the currently in-force regulatory provisions for assessing the damage stability of dry cargo and passenger ships. It reviews the historical development of the new regulations, to be applied to all new buildings on January 1, 2009, and the anticipated impact of the new rules on the design and indirect operation of various subcategories of dry cargo and passenger ships. It identifies certain loopholes in the existing regulations that appear cured by the new ones, though certain compromises adopted in the development of the new regulations, particularly those related to large passenger ships’ survivability, have left some open issues to be addressed in the near future. r 2007 Elsevier Ltd. Second Generation IMO Intact Stability Vulnerability Criteria and its Application to ships Navigating in Persian Gulf and Oman Sea
Second generation intact stability criteria for few past years had been under development by International Maritime Organization (IMO). Since the draft proposed amendments shall be amended to International code on Intact Stability (IS code 2008), new regulations shall enter into force for ships of length more than 24 meter. Generally second generation intact stability criteria (SGISC) refers to...
متن کاملDynamic Cargo Trains Scheduling for Tackling Network Constraints and Costs Emanating from Tardiness and Earliness
This paper aims to develop a multi-objective model for scheduling cargo trains faced by the costs of tardiness and earliness, time limitations, queue priority and limited station lines. Based upon the Islamic Republic of Iran Railway Corporation (IRIRC) regulations, passenger trains enjoy priority over other trains for departure. Therefore, the timetable of cargo trains must be determined based...
متن کاملRecommendations for assessing water quality and safety on board merchant ships.
INTRODUCTION Health and diseases on board ships may depend on water. Interventions to improve the quality of water may bring to significant benefits to health and water stores/supply and should be controlledto protect health. This paper has reviewed the main regulations for the control of water safety and qualityon board ships and presents some practical recommendations for keeping water health...
متن کاملDesign Aspects of Survivability of Surface Naval and Merchant Ships
The paper addresses various design aspects of survivability for surface naval and merchant ships through a common rational probabilistic methodology. It is based on earlier work of Kurt Wendel on a probabilistic approach to the damage stability of surface ships. This method was adopted by SOLAS 1974 through Res. A.265 (VIII) as an alternative to the deterministic SOLAS criteria for passenger sh...
متن کاملInterpretation and design implications of probabilistic damage stability regulation
The adoption of resolution MSC.216(82) (SOLAS 2009) has had widespread implications on the design of passenger ships which have led to significant improvements in their safety with respect to the risk of flooding. The development of this new regulation has been an opportunity to completely re-evaluate the way of calculating damage stability which has resulted in a much more rigorous and thoroug...
